The United News project provides round-the-clock broadcasting implemented by joint efforts of national TV channels (TV channels: 1+1, ICTV, Inter), the Public Broadcaster (UA: Pershiy) and the parliamentary TV channel Rada. This format was confirmed by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and approved by the Decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. The Decree states that in the conditions of martial law the implementation of a unified information policy is a priority issue of national security.
The Ukrainian state finances the activities of the Public Broadcaster and the state TV channel Rada, in particular, in terms of creating a telethon. During martial law, the state budget must cover the following functions: national defense, citizens social support, and Ukrainian business economic support. Thus, there is a lack of budget for round-the-clock broadcasting conducted by the private TV channels.
Therefore, the charity project "Support UA United News #UArazom" is raising funds to cover the cost of news production by TV channels - partners of the telethon "United News #UArazom". Every day, Ukrainian correspondents and media outlets risk their lives and health, their freedom, and provide Ukraine and the world with objective information about the war.
Monthly total costs of news production and broadcasting is $3 million distributed between:
- 80+% for the payroll fund (over 2,500 specialists are working daily on the marathon from all TV channels (incl. journalists, presenters, analytics, operators and other technical staff)
- less than 20% of costs are to cover operational stability of media broadcasting: communications, logistics and technical services, rent, etc.
